(WHAM) - Nearly $12 million in state funding will be allocated to the City of Rochester for the 2021-22 budget year.

New York State Senators Samra Brouk (D-55) and Jeremy Cooney (D-56) joined Mayor Lovely Warren Monday afternoon to announce the state funding for infrastructure.

The money marked a 137 percent increase in infrastructure investment as compared to the 2020-21 budget.

"This funding comes at an important moment in history when we are reimagining our systems and streets to prioritize people -- pedestrians and bicyclists, a parent pushing their child in a stroller, a community member in a wheelchair, or a child learning to skate," Brouk said.

About 40 percent of the new funding - $5.4 million - is part of the City Touring Routes program. The initiative gives state money to cities, towns, and villages based on the existing number of centerline miles of non-state highway roads.
