Akola Schwelm STATEMENT FROM REBUILD NY NOW PRESIDENT MIKE ELMENDORF ON PASSAGE OF SENATE AND ASSEMBLY ONE-HOUSE BUDGETS

“We commend the Senate Majority for advancing a budget resolution that takes an important step toward the restoration of parity between the NYSDOT and MTA by committing an additional $3.5 billion to the five-year NYSDOT capital plan.

The Senate has shown strong, bi-partisan leadership on this issue, with the Senate Democratic Conference also calling for a return to parity.  While the Assembly budget resolution falls short of parity, it still increases funding for NYSDOT capital from the Executive Budget Proposal.

It is clear that the calls for parity coming from a broad coalition of business, labor, local government and environmental organizations are being heard in the Legislature.

As the budget process continues, we will be working to make sure that the very significant needs of the entire state’s infrastructure are met and that the commitments made to both the NYSDOT and MTA are fully funded.  Our communities and our economy depend upon it.”
